The Karakuri-Bako are small japanese handmade wooden trick works.
Each single piece results from a slow and detailed handwork, made by the finest craftsmen whose secrets are handed on from father to son. Nowadays less than ten craftsmen artists are still working on these boxes and the youngest is over 60 years old.
Beside the lovely external pattern, made by a special "mosaic" that signs the different colour wood tones and nuances, you can find the ability and the finest technique, characteristic of the japanese craftsmen, with their patience and accurate care for each detail.
Each one based on different opening schemes, always with complicated and totally invisible mechanisms, the puzzle boxes became a "must have" object for keen on trick games.
To open the boxes you need to execute many "steps" in the right sequence until you reach one or more inner compartments.
For all these reasons each Karakuri-Bako becomes an unique piece, that each one should jealously collect and preserve.
The three main features of the puzzle boxes are: the pattern of their decorations, the number of "steps" they need to be opened and the size, shown in "sun" units.
